Smaragdtavlen fra Hermes/Thoth
Tabula Smaragdina, the Emerald Tablet of Hermes (Thoth)
Ideo fugiet a te omnis obscuritas.
Haec est totius fortitudinis fortitudo fortis, quia vincet omnem rem subtilem, omnemque solidam penetrabit.
Sic mundus creatus est.
Hinc erunt adaptationes mirabiles, quarum modus est hic. Itaque vocatus sum Hermes Trismegistus, habens tres partes philosophiae totius mundi.
Completum est quod dixi de operatione Solis.
Isaac Newtons oversættelse:
Oversat fra tidligere latinsk oversættelse (misfortolkning).
Tis true without lying, certain & most true.
That which is below is like that which is above & that which is above is like that which is below to do the miracles of one only thing
And as all things have been & arose from one by the mediation of one: so all things have their birth from this one thing by adaptation.
The Sun is its father, the moon its mother, the wind hath carried it in its belly, the earth is its nurse.
The father of all perfection in the whole world is here.
Its force or power is entire if it be converted into earth.
Separate thou the earth from the fire, the subtle from the gross sweetly with great industry.
It ascends from the earth to the heaven & again it descends to the earth & receives the force of things superior & inferior.
By this means you shall have the glory of the whole world
& thereby all obscurity shall fly from you.
Its force is above all force. For it vanquishes every subtle thing & penetrates every solid thing.
So was the world created.
From this are & do come admirable adaptations whereof the means (or process) is here in this. Hence I am called Hermes Trismegist, having the three parts of the philosophy of the whole world
That which I have said of the operation of the Sun is accomplished & ended.

Here be what is most true, in truth the highest of Truths!
Verily as it found here below so too must it be in the above & beyond, so too as it is in that beyond
must it also be here below, these are the miraculous workings (demiurge) of the Divine!
Rightly shall all things that are and ever will be, sprung from the Divine; herein all things that are
become the birth of the Divine & cast in it's image (adaptatione).
Thy Father, Light & Sun, thy Mother who bears you hence the Moon, thine very spirit (animus, ventus)
as carried in her womb, & nourised to growth on (upon this) terra.
Ever before you (immanent) is thine Father of All, that hath wrought Perfection upon the world!
Though power of the Divine be manifest multitudinous on terra, Nay! Thy (Father) be wholly
undiminished of (his) Divine power!
(You are commanded) Transcend thine light upon this earth! The sublime (soul) from the gross
matter is verily highest bliss (sweet)! By (wise) cunning make this come to pass!
Verily from terra upwards to the celestial Heavens themselves, and from Them reaching down to the
very terra, the DIvine powers that Are reacheth from on Most High hither to that which is most low.
Here throughout are manifest (supreme) Glory upon the entire World!
Know ye (this truth) and darkness shall as fly from you!
The Divine is Supreme Power of Powers unrivaled, for it is Overlord of All from that which is most
sublime verily to the largest of massive things!
Herein be Lord sovereign over all things create, the entire worls over!
Herein proclaimed (I have told you thusly) are as all things that are and shall be, splendid &
multitudinous as they are made become (of the Supreme)! Lo, has it be said thusly, proclaimed by
(myself) Hermes trismegistus (philosophy of the World, philosophy of the Divine, & philosophy of the
Supreme One), possessing all three parts the philosophy of the entire World.
Finished in complete entirety spoken thence, the works of the Supreme Divine!
